Some windows have a "Goldilocks" problem. In the summer, sunlight streams in, making a room too hot. And if you run the furnace come winter, you can lose up to 30% of the heat through your windows, making the room too cold. Luckily, there is a window treatment solution that delivers interior climate control that is just right: cellular shades. The unique structure of these shades serves as a way to insulate against changing temperatures. Cellular window shades give you better energy efficiency because you don't have to use your home's heating or cooling systems as frequently. And with Stoneside's custom cellular shades, you also get the benefit of high-quality, attractive window treatments that fit perfectly with your style.

The Best in Cellular Window Shades

Cellular shades are also known as honeycomb or pleated shades. These names are derived from the cellular structure of these window treatments that help trap heat or cold air. You can customize your cellular window shades with different pleat sizes, single or double cell configurations, and opacity levels ranging from sheer to blackout.

As with regular shades, cellular shades can be operated with loop cord, cordless, or cord cleat systems, all of which provide maximum safety. Motorization options are also available, allowing you to easily raise and lower the shades via remote, a wall switch, or a smart device.

Stoneside's selection of custom cellular shades is exceptional. With a passel of beautiful colors, these window treatments give a clean, fresh look to any room in your home. We are proud to manufacture all of our window coverings right here in the United States, with skilled craftspeople who work tirelessly to ensure our products are the highest quality. Frequently Asked Questions About Cellular Shades

What are cellular shades?

Cellular shades are shades that have a pleated honeycomb design. Their honeycomb design produces best-in-class climate control by trapping air with high levels of temperature difference from your home. This means keeping your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter without excessive energy costs!

How do cellular shades work?

The cells in these shades basically hold air in and prevent it from either coming in or escaping from your room. So if you’ve had the heater on at night during a cold snap, cellular shades help retain heat and maintain room temperature during the day. Conversely, the sun’s warmth can’t reach your room in summer because the cellular window shades are absorbing it.

How to install cellular shades

Our professional installation team members handle installing your cellular shades for you. They use great care and attention to detail to make sure you are completely satisfied with the end result.

What features do cellular shades have?

The signature feature is the cellular structure, which can be tailored with single or double cell configurations and a variety of pleat sizes. Our custom cellular shades come in 4 different opacities. What’s more, they can also be paired with vertical cellular shades for larger windows. You get even more versatility with our varied lift systems, including Top Down/Bottom Up, allowing you to position your cellular window shades wherever you want.

Can cellular shades be longer than your window?

We do not recommend installing cellular shades that are longer than your window unless they are outside-mounted. The main reasons for this are:

  • An inside-mounted cellular shade will be the most effective at capturing hot or cold air in its honeycomb structure if it is close to the window.
  • Allowing the shade to curve away from the window may hinder its operating abilities and may even damage the shade.

What are Top-Down Bottom-Up shades?

Top-down bottom-up shades are shades that can be lowered from the top of the window, or raised from the bottom of the window. They offer the best of both worlds in light and privacy control.
